CAMLPR launches website

camlpr_colourThe Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) is a voluntary alliance of medical laboratory technology provincial health regulatory authorities. Its new website is www.camlpr.org. CMLTO is a member and Registrar & CEO Kathy Wilkie is the current Chair of the CAMLPR Board.  

CAMLPR’s founding purpose is to provide an infrastructure and forum through which Canadian regulators of medical laboratory professionals can anticipate and respond to regulatory challenges and opportunities on interprovincial, territorial, national and global levels. Consent and capacity knowledge assessment survey
In 2017, the Federation of Health Regulatory Colleges of Ontario (FHRCO) of which CMLTO is a member, convened a Consent & Capacity Working Group. The Working Group’s first task is to assess the current knowledge of all regulated health professionals in Ontario regarding consent and capacity.
Results of the survey will be used to determine the feasibility of creating collaborative educational materials to improve members' understanding of their legal and professional obligations for obtaining consent and assessing capacity in their respective practice settings. 
CMLTO encourages all members to respond to the survey which should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your responses are anonymous and will only be used and communicated in aggregate format. CMLTO webinar: recently rescinded professional practice guidelines

On October 28, 2017, the CMLTO Quality Assurance Committee passed a motion to rescind the CMLTO Histology and Cytology Practice Guidelines. The CMLTO Practice Guidelines for Histology and Cytology are no longer available.

Please join us for a webinar on Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.  A CMLTO  representative will be addressing MLTs' questions about why the guidelines were rescinded, and how it will affect their professional practice. Topics will include:
• Overview of MLT Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and professional obligations
• CMLTO Practice Guideline development and review process.

PHOL Labstracts: HIV & HTLV testing and Hepatitis C

The Public Health Ontario Laboratory (PHOL) has released a new Labstract (LAB-SD-120) regarding the New Requisition for HIV and HTLV testing. Effective February 5, 2018, PHOL is implementing an updated HIV and HTLV requisition form, titled HIV and HTLVI/HTLVII Serology and HIV PCR Test Requisition.
