Updated Collaboration Guidelines for MLTs released

At its April 8, 2018 meeting, the CMLTO Quality Assurance Committee passed a motion to approve the updated Collaboration Guidelines for Medical Laboratory Technologists.
The Collaboration Guidelines outline some enablers and barriers to IPC that are contextual to an MLT’s professional culture. These guidelines focus on helping MLTs learn and apply decision-making tools to practise collaboratively.

CAMLPR announces incorporation

The Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) is pleased to announce that Corporations Canada has granted CAMLPR’s Certificate of Incorporation under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

PLI audit underway

The CMLTO Consolidated Bylaws require all Practising members to carry professional liability insurance (PLI) in all medical laboratory practice employment settings. 
The College randomly selects members who are required to provide proof of PLI through an online annual audit. 
Those selected have been notified and are required to complete the PLI audit by Friday, July 6, 2018, 11:59 pm EST. Please email the Registration department at registration@cmlto.com with questions.

The CMLTO Council is embarking on a public engagement project to collect feedback and opinions via an online survey.

The Council is interested in learning public opinions about CMLTO’s efforts to build public confidence, ensure accountable professionals, and contribute to health system transformation.

The responses received will be used to inform the Council’s policy work and to ensure the College is meeting its strategic goals to protect the public.

Rescinded guidelines presentation and FAQ available

The CMLTO held a webinar on February 22, 2018, to address MLTs' questions about why the CMLTO Cytology & Histology Practice Guidelines were rescinded, and how it affects their professional practice. Topics included:
• Overview of MLT Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and professional obligations
• CMLTO Practice Guideline development and review process.

CMLTO releases 2017 HHR report

CMLTO is pleased to announce the release of its ninth annual Medical Laboratory Technologist Health Human Resource Exploration report. This analysis of the 2017 CMLTO membership data examines MLT practice, employment facility and status, and the provision of MLT education. 
New for 2017, CMLTO is releasing an Ontario MLT practice trends and demographics snapshot.
