CMLTO to present at HFO event

CMLTO is one of the organizations making a presentation at an Orientation to Licensing for Internationally-Educated Medical Laboratory Technologists, sponsored by HealthForceOntario (HFO).

MLTs and IPC

The CMLTO is pleased to announce a collaboration amongst five partner organizations to develop a single point of access to resources that support MLTs involved in interprofessional collaboration (IPC).

The College worked with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT), St. Clair College, Medical Laboratory Science program, and St. Lawrence College, Medical Laboratory Science program to develop a webpage (click here), hosted by CMLTO.

The group shares the goal of achieving excellence in patient care through interprofessional collaboration.

PHO update: Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Public Health Ontario (PHO) has released a new PHOL labstract (LAB-SD-113-000) for Ontario medical laboratories.
It concerns Mycobacterium tuberculosis susceptibility testing—Impact of Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) co-isolation with M. tuberculosis. Click here to read the update.

Call for Nominations for Election to CMLTO Council

Deadline for election nomination forms to be received by the CMLTO is Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 5:00 pm.

The CMLTO exists for the protection of the public’s right to safe, high-quality health care through self-regulation and leadership of the medical laboratory technology profession. The Council establishes CMLTO’s strategic direction and the outcomes that will lead self-regulation forward in the interest of public safety. The CMLTO invites you to be part of this process. Bring your knowledge, skill and ability to Council and help shape the future.

To participate, you will need to run for election this year in the following districts:
District 2 – Central West Region
District 4 – Central East Region
District 8 – Member-at-Large

Elections for existing Council vacancies will also be held for the following districts:
District 3 – Toronto Area
District 6 – North East Region
District 7 – North West Region

Understanding your duty to report: new resource

The Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario have developed a new resource titled, Yes, You Can. Dispelling the Myths About Sharing Information with Children’s Aid Societies.
Common misunderstandings about privacy are frequently cited as reasons for not sharing information with a children’s aid society about a child who may be at risk. Ontario law permits professionals working with children to share this information.
This new guide helps professionals understand that privacy is not a barrier to disclosing this important information.
