QAP update Practice Review

qap_symbol_and_noticeThe Practice Review (PR) is a mandatory component of the CMLTO Quality Assurance Program. Its purpose is to provide an objective assessment of a member's professional practice. The Practice Review is based on the CMLTO Standards of Practice for Medical Laboratory Technologists.

QAP Practice Review: Current

  • 25 questions based on the CMLTO Standards of Practice for Medical Laboratory Technologists
  • Open book assessment
  • Completed online
  • A PR is required if:
    • A member is randomly selected from the CMLTO Practising membership database
    • Upon QAC request
  • To successfully pass the Practice Review, a member must achieve both of the following criteria
    • A score of 60% or more in three of the fives assessment areas; and
    • An overall score of 60% or more on the entire assessment

QAP Practice Review: Updated

  • 30 multiple choice and True/False questions based on the CMLTO Standards of Practice in alignment with the Practice Review blueprint (PDF)
  • Open book assessment
  • Completed online
  • PR submission requirements:
    • Practising members registered for more than two (2) years will be randomly selected once in every ten year cycle.
    • All Practising members within their first two (2) years of CMLTO registration.
    • A member who changes their class of registration from Non-Practising to Practising will complete the Practice Review within two (2) years of the change.
    • A member suspended for non-payment of fees and who reinstates as Practising will complete the Practice Review within two (2) years of reinstatement.
    • A member who Resigns or is revoked and reapplies to the CMLTO as Practising will complete the Practice Review within two (2) years of re-registering.
    • A member who changes their class of registration (i.e., Resigned, Non-Practising, suspended, or revoked) after being randomly selected for the Professional Portfolio or Practice Review audit will complete the Practice Review assessment within 60 days of returning to Practising status.
    • Upon QAC request
  • To successfully pass the Practice Review a member must score at or above the assessment’s cut score.
