QAP update Professional Portfolio

qap_symbol_and_noticeThe Professional Portfolio helps members maintain professional excellence by promoting ongoing self-reflection and development. Each Practising member must maintain a Professional Portfolio in order to set measurable goals toward continuous quality improvement and enhanced professional practice.

QAP Professional Portfolio: Current

  • Annual cycle from January 1st to December 31st

  • Online portfolio

  • Consists of four sections: Professional profile, Self-assessment, Learning goals, and Professional development.

    • Professional profile: A summary of the member’s professional experience

    • Self-assessment: A reflective exercise where a member self-evaluates their professional practice by selecting a rating for each CMLTO Standard of Practice. Members are required to identify a minimum of one area of improvement (i.e., competency rated as <75% or 75-95%).

    • Learning goals: A member develops a minimum of two learning goals each year with at least one based on an area of improvement from the self-assessment results.

    • Professional development: A minimum of 30 hours of professional development (PD) from three different activity types. Each activity includes the activity’s date, type, title/topic, key learnings and claimed PD hours.

  • The Professional Portfolio is submitted if:
    • A member is randomly selected from the CMLTO Practising membership database
    • Upon QAC request

QAP Professional Portfolio: Updated

  • Annual cycle from January 1st to December 31st
  • Online portfolio through CMLTO Online Services
  • Consists of four sections: Professional profile, Self-assessment including the Practice Improvement Self-assessment Module (PRISM), Learning goals, and Professional development.
  • Every Practising member must submit Stage 1 by March 31st which includes their completed self-assessment and initial learning goal development.
    • Self-assessment: Consists of a member’s self-reflection on their MLT duties and tasks, the evaluation of a member’s professional practice in comparison to the CMLTO Standard of Practice and the PRISM module video and multiple choice questions.
    • Learning goals: A minimum of two learning goals with at least one based on the results of the member’s self-assessment. Only the Goal and Goal description sections are due by March 31st
  • Practising members are randomly selected once every five years to submit Stage 2 by December 31st which includes the following completed sections:
    • Learning goals: This includes the initial learning goal development sections (i.e., Goal, and Goal description) as well as the goal reflection sections (i.e., Impact on Practice, Goal completed and Next steps, if applicable).
    • Professional development: Describes the member’s professional development activities completed throughout the year. Additionally, it demonstrates how PD activities supported their professional practice by advancing their learning goals. The PD entries are:
      • From three different activity types
      • Contain a minimum of three activities linked to a learning goal and includes a description of how the activity supported their continued competence.
      • A minimum of 30 professional development hours with key learnings that clearly describe how it advanced the member’s professional knowledge, skill, and/or judgment.
  • Practising members registered in the current portfolio year will not be selected to submit their Professional Portfolio. The first calendar year of CMLTO registration does not contribute to the five (5) year cycle but they are still required to maintain an up-to-date professional portfolio.
  • Members are required to submit their Professional Portfolio within 30 days upon QAC request.
