Disclaimer - legal status

Website registration for updates does not automatically voluntarily register medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).  Registering for updates only provides individuals with the opportunity to receive electronic communications from the CMLTO related to the regulation medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians initiative. The CMLTO adheres to a strict privacy code.

Legal status of medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians

The criteria and process for medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians to voluntarily register with the CMLTO are currently being developed. Registering for updates does not automatically voluntarily register medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians with the CMLTO.

When the process for voluntary registration with the CMLTO is defined, medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians who voluntarily register with the CMLTO will not be considered members of the CMLTO.

As such, medical laboratory assistants and medical laboratory technicians will not be subject to the same privileges (e.g., voting in Council elections) and obligations (e.g., full participation in the quality assurance program) as members.

Those individuals who successfully meet the criteria for voluntary registration will be granted access to the designation of "Registered Medical Laboratory Technician" (Technicien(ne) de Laboratoire Médical Autorisé(e)) or "Registered Medical Laboratory Assistant" (Assistant(e) de Laboratoire Médical Autorisé(e)). Additionally, the CMLTO reserves the exclusive right to add or remove individuals from the voluntary roster.
